Furthermore, there are two licence types available – the Apple developer and the Apple developer enterprise license. We often get asked which licence is required, so we’ve put together the following table to summarise the licence types.
Licence types
Principally there are two licence types relevant for iOS app development and distribution:
iOS Developer Program | iOS Developer Enterprise Program | |
---|---|---|
Cost | $99 per year | $299 per year |
Features | Distribute your app via the App Store. | Distribute proprietary apps directly to employees hosted by you. |
Test on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. | Test on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. | |
Receive code level technical support. | ||
Distribution | Once your app has been built and tested, it is submitted to the App Store for review and acceptance. Review time typically takes ten days. | Once your app has been built and tested, you can launch it immediately. |
If your learning app will be made available to the general public, the iOS Developer Program is required.
If your learning app is strictly for your employees, the iOS Developer Enterprise Program is required.
Once you have registered for the relevant program, you can use it for as many learning apps as required. You can also register for both programs if you intend to distribute apps internally and to the general public.
